PhotoFolio is an annual inter-club competition amongst clubs in the Midland Counties Photographic Federation. There are three sections for Monochrome and Colour prints and projected digital images (PDIs).
The number of images entered into each section is dependant on the number of the members. In
the case of Tamworth, we were allowed 15 images in each section, with a limit of 4 titles per author and a maximum of 3 natural history images in each section. The club competition is based on the
score of each individual image and a weighting system too complicated to understand!
This year the selection was carried out by Adrian, Sue, Phil and myself and was largely based on a
bank of images used in recent external competitions; we endeavoured to select the strongest entry
as this is a high profile competition within the MCPF region. Any work doing exceptionally well
might be included in the travelling portfolio, which we have at the Club in January each year.
This year’s competition was judged at the Smethwick PS headquarters last Sunday, 11th May. The judges were: Sue Moore FRPS MPAGB, Chris Palmer FRPS DPAGB AFIAP and Colin Trow-Poole FRPS.
Out of the 45 images selected 29 were accepted into the exhibition. Many others fell 1point short of
the acceptance level. In the club competition, Tamworth finished 6th in the PDI, 4th in the
Monochrome and 3rd in the Colour section. An excellent result all round.
In addition to the acceptances Dave Bowen received two Certificates of Merit for the colour print
“Sand Racer” and the PDI “Female Rock Ptarmigan Calling”.
Les Beardmore received Chris Palmer’s MCPF Medal for the colour print “Singing Wren” and
Jim Fenney’s “Midnight Shadow” was awarded Best Contemporary PDI.
