Friday 5th May 2017

Our trip to Torquay began with the arrival of 16 members at the Tor Point Hotel which is situated

about 1 mile from the sea front. After the evening meal many of the group went for a walk down

to the sea front to stretch our legs and take some evening shots.

A few hardy photographers got up early to see if they could catch the sun rise at Paignton Pier. Unfortunately the sun did not want to play  but never the less they enjoyed the sea air and waves crashing round the pier.

After a hearty breakfast the group went to Cockington Village. The weather was kind to us with

only a few light showers throughout the day. As Cockington is not far from Torquay, some members walked whilst others drove. The approach on foot was through a lovely wooded area which leads

to the “cholcolate box’ village of Cockington. We stopped  for morning coffee. We then continued looking round and enjoyed lunch  at the Drum pub in the village. The quaintness of the village was enhanced by a cricket match on the village pitch which sits in what can only be described as a

‘bowl’. This gave plenty of opportunity to  take photographs with undisturbed backgrounds.

The walk back into Torquay saw many members walk down to the marina for a well earned

ice-cream.

After the evening meal some of the group took an evening constitutional back down to the marina

to try some night shots before returning for a drink and chat with the rest of the group.

Today we used various modes of transport to visit and explore Dartmouth.

We started by catching the bus from Torquay to Paignton and then boarded the steam train pulled

by 4277 Hercules which took us on a very scenic journey to Kingswear stopping at various stations

on the way.

We then crossed the river Dart using the Kingswear passinger ferry to Dartmouth where we had just enough time to have elevenses before embarking on an hour long trip up the river Dart to Dittersham and back.

The scenery was beautiful and the weather glorious. Once back on dry  land we had lunch and

explored Dartmouth before reversing our journey back to Torquay.

There were a variety of photo opportunities and a lovely day was had by all.

Back at the hotel after another hearty evening meal, some members went for an evening photo

shoot by Paignton Pier.

Today saw the majority of the party head for home with a few of us staying the rest of the week.

Our thanks to Pete & Angie for organising a truly wonderful weekend was had by all with a mixture

of exploring, photography and social gathering.
